Sydney Roosters hooker Sam Verrills<\/a> is facing at least a week on the sidelines for his hit on Brian Kelly, despite claims from rugby league icon Andrew Johns that the hit didn't even warrant a penalty.<\/p>\n

Verrills was hit with a grade two careless high tackle charge for the incident, which occurred in the 36th minute of the Roosters' thrilling elimination final win over the Gold Coast Titans<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The grade two charge means Verrills will need a successful judiciary outing to be free to play in the Roosters' semi-final clash against Manly next weekend.<\/p>\n

However, an unsuccessful trip to the judiciary would mean Verrills misses two matches, including a potential preliminary final against Melbourne, should the Roosters qualify.<\/p>\n

The Roosters have until noon on Monday to enter a plea for the incident involving the 22-year-old.<\/p>\n

The judiciary charge mirrored the fears of Johns, who believed the Roosters star stood no chance of playing<\/a> given the precedent set by match review decisions this season.<\/p>\n

"For me it's not even a penalty," Johns said on Nine's coverage. "Brian Kelly's falling, Sam Verrills committed to the tackle, unfortunately there are collisions that are going to happen."<\/p>\n

"But, if they're going to be consistent, Sam won't be playing next week, because they can't change the decisions they've made over the last month or two."<\/p>\n

While Verrills is the third player to be charged this week, he is the only one facing a ban, with Manly's Josh Schuster and Penrith's Viliame Kikau<\/a> both handed fines.<\/p>\n

Kikau was charged with a grade one dangerous contact charge for a hit on Jaydn Su'A in the Panthers' qualifying final loss to South Sydney<\/a>, and can accept a $2150 fine with an early guilty plea or a $2850 fine if he challenges the charge and loses. <\/p>\n

Schuster was charged with a dangerous throw after a tackle on Melbourne halfback Jahrome Hughes in Manly's Friday night qualifying final loss<\/a>. <\/p>\n

He can accept a $1150 fine with an early guilty plea or a $1500 fine in the event of a failed judiciary challenge.<\/p>\n
