Titans<\/a> coach Justin Holbrook admits Patrick Herbert is "taking it pretty hard" after the centre was unable to help seal the match in a last-ditch play during the Gold Coast's 25-24 loss to the Roosters.<\/a><\/p>\n

After Roosters teen sensation Sam Walker knocked through a field goal to give his side the lead with three minutes remaining, it was up to the Titans to produce something special to come out on top in tonight's elimination final.<\/p>\n

With just seconds remaining, a stunning break from back-rower Beau Fermor, who beat four defenders to take the Gold Coast into attacking territory, resulted in an overlap opening up for the Titan's right-edge attack.<\/p>\n

That play resulted in an unmarked Corey Thompson, who was alone on the wing as the ball ended up in Herbert's hands in a play the appeared destined to result in a try.<\/p>\n

Despite Thompson being unmarked, Herbert opted to charge at the try-line himself before taking up the pass to his winger, which came too late as the ball rolled out of play.<\/p>\n

While social media was quick to come down hard on the Titans centre, Holbrook offered a brief response when asked how Herbert was feeling after the game.<\/p>\n

"He has taken it pretty hard," Holbrook said "He will be alright."<\/p>\n

Speaking on the loss, Holbrook admits it's a tough one to take in.<\/p>\n

"I'm shattered, it was there to be won," he said.<\/p>\n

"We could be sitting here so happy, but we're not.<\/p>\n

"Every time we fought our way back, we let them off the hook. All the moments, we didn't win at crucial stages in the match… all those turning points in big games.<\/p>\n

"A lot of near-misses and it cost us.<\/p>\n

"It's heartbreaking. Our city, the Gold Coast got behind us this week."<\/p>\n
