Gun Swan<\/a> Jordan Dawson has rejected a long-term offer to remain at Sydney and requested a trade home to South Australia, the club has confirmed.<\/p>\n

The dashing 64-game defender has banked three impressive seasons in succession, with his 2021 campaign helping the Swans return to finals football for the first time since 2018.<\/p>\n

Dawson's brilliant 2021 season culminated in the 24-year-old finishing third in the club's best and fairest, behind three-time winner Luke Parker<\/a> and two-time champion Jake Lloyd.<\/p>\n

"Jordan has indicated to the club his desire to return to South Australia to be closer to family," Sydney general manager of football Charlie Gardiner said.<\/p>\n

"Jordan has been weighing up this decision for some time and despite there being an attractive long-term deal on offer with the Swans, he has arrived at the decision that he would like to return home.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

"The news is obviously disappointing for the club.\u00a0Jordan is a young, hugely talented player who is coming off a breakout season in 2021, which only adds to the disappointment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Given we have only learned the news this afternoon, we will take some time to work through the club's options leading into the trade period."<\/p>\n

If Dawson lands at Port Adelaide<\/a> he will reunite with former Sydney teammate Aliir Aliir<\/a>, who departed the Swans during the 2020 trade period.<\/p>\n

The Swans' 2021 season was brought to a close in a one-point elimination final defeat to cross-city rivals the Giants<\/a> in Launceston.<\/p>\n
