{"id":125139,"date":"2021-09-07T07:10:49","date_gmt":"2021-09-07T07:10:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=125139"},"modified":"2021-09-07T07:58:52","modified_gmt":"2021-09-07T07:58:52","slug":"green-gone-as-maroons-search-for-new-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=125139","title":{"rendered":"Green gone as Maroons search for new coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Queensland and <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/nrl\/paul-green\" title=\"Paul Green\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Green<\/a> have gone their separate ways, leaving the Maroons in yet another search for a new coach ahead of next year&#x27;s <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/nrl\/state-of-origin\" title=\"State of Origin\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">State of Origin<\/a> series.<\/p>\n<p>In his one series at the helm of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/nrl\/queensland-maroons\" title=\"Maroons\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maroons<\/a>, Green was unable to retain the shield recaptured by Wayne Bennett in 2020, with Brad <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/nrl\/state-of-origin-nsw-blues-series-win-queensland-maroons-dynasty-brad-fittler\/d54d4588-08da-47c7-aed3-c3dd41b11b8e\" title=\"Fittler&#x27;s Blues winning their third Origin series in four years\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fittler&#x27;s Blues winning their third Origin series in four years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The QRL released a statement this afternoon confirming Green had decided he wouldn&#x27;t continue in the role, with a search for his replacement ongoing.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"029d3fd4-4500-49e3-9f2c-7854b6679478\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/029d3fd4-4500-49e3-9f2c-7854b6679478\" alt=\"Queensland Maroons coach Paul Green.\" data-width=\"4156\" data-height=\"2337\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Green said his reason for leaving the post was his pursuit of a return to NRL coaching, which is not compatible with coaching Queensland.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;After much consultation and discussion post the Origin series, both the QRL and I have decided to move in different directions,&quot; Green said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The basis for this is simple, the QRL wants to ensure that they have certainty around the Origin coach not wanting to pursue an NRL head coach job, and whilst I could give them that certainty for the 2021 series, I cannot guarantee that this would be the case in the future.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The statement makes Green&#x27;s intention to get back into the NRL ASAP clear.<\/p>\n<p>Having won a premiership at the helm of the Cowboys in 2015, Green&#x27;s name still regularly comes up as a viable option when a vacancy opens up at club level.<\/p>\n<p>Green was happy to take a break from the rigours of NRL coaching this season after being sacked by the Cowboys midway through the 2020 season but having had a season-and-a-half away from clubland he is clearly ready to throw his hat back into the ring.<\/p>\n<p><img data-video-id=\"6263667659001\" src=\"https:\/\/vms-network-images-prod.s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com\/2021\/07\/370058\/pickerImage.jpg\" alt=\"Origin Presser: Green believes lessons were learnt from Maroons series loss\" data-vms-id=\"ref:ckr3jsijy004c0go10f00h75q\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&quot;We all understand the dynamics and volatility around NRL club head coach roles and ultimately, that is where I see myself when the right opportunity opens up,&quot; Green said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I agree with the QRL&#x27;s desire for stability in the Origin coach job and to that end, I felt compelled to be transparent with my broader plans and thus this decision.
