{"id":124723,"date":"2021-09-06T01:46:04","date_gmt":"2021-09-06T01:46:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=124723"},"modified":"2021-09-06T05:58:03","modified_gmt":"2021-09-06T05:58:03","slug":"teen-freak-re-writes-us-open-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=124723","title":{"rendered":"Teen freak re-writes US Open history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spanish teen Carlos Alcaraz is the youngest male quarterfinalist at the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/us-open\" title=\"U.S. Open since\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">U.S. Open since<\/a> 1963, and the youngest in the Open era.<\/p>\n<p>The 18-year-old reached the final eight at Flushing Meadows by beating 141st-ranked qualifier Peter Gojowczyk of Germany in a five-set epic 5-7, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0.<\/p>\n<p>In doing so, Alcaraz became the youngest men&#x27;s quarterfinalist at any Grand Slam tournament since Michael Chang was 18 at the 1990 French Open.<\/p>\n<p>Alcatraz&#x27;s stunning comeback victory pushed a little over 3 1\/2 hours as he downed his 32-year-old rival in front of a raucous crowd.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"e79fdb4d-5b09-41dd-93ea-24c1d81f45da\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/e79fdb4d-5b09-41dd-93ea-24c1d81f45da\" alt=\"Carlos Alcaraz storms into the US Open quarter-finals.\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 55th-ranked Alcaraz had previously upset No. 3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round just days ago.<\/p>\n<p>He is also the youngest player with two five-set Grand Slam wins in a row since Michael Chang was 16 at the 1988 U.S. Open.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I&#x27;m super excited to be in my first second week in the grand slam, so it&#x27;s amazing for me. It&#x27;s a dream come true&#8230; ,&quot; Alcaraz said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I didn&#x27;t expect to play quarter-finals here.
