There is a pressing question rookie Broncos<\/a> coach Kevin Walters<\/a> must answer if he is to improve at his job in his second season in charge, rugby league legend Brad Fittler<\/a> believes.<\/p>\n

The NSW State of Origin<\/a> coach says Walters must answer why enigmatic playmaker Anthony Milford<\/a> suddenly had a phenomenal return to brilliance after signing with the Rabbitohs late in July<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Milford, who's struggled ever since guiding Brisbane to a grand final appearance against North Queensland<\/a> in a sparkling 2015 campaign, teased the rugby league world with glittering performances over the last three rounds of the 2021 regular season.<\/p>\n

The former Queensland Maroons<\/a> livewire shone against the Warriors, Sharks and Knights, playing 80 minutes at five-eighth in all three games and giving Broncos and Rabbitohs<\/a> fans a glimpse of the destructive attacking weapon he can be.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Fittler says Walters must give Milford's astonishing rebirth considerable thought as he tries to lead Brisbane from a 14th-placed finish to a 2022 finals appearance.<\/p>\n

"I think the big thing with Kevvie is he's got to learn what happened with Anthony Milford," Fittler said on Wide World of Sports' The Final Whistle<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

"Why did Anthony Milford play good when the season was over and he was leaving?<\/p>\n

"If he learns something out of that, that's how he'll improve as a coach and work out how to get the best out of a player."<\/p>\n

Rugby league icon Ruan Sims<\/a> gave Walters a wrap over the job he had performed in his first season at the helm.<\/p>\n

"Walters came under a lot of scrutiny early on and even to midway through the season," Sims said.<\/p>\n

"But he was willing to put the broom through the Broncos and come out in the last few weeks with a team that I think can really build.<\/p>\n

"Adam Reynolds<\/a> coming in, Kurt Capewell<\/a> coming in brings really good leadership and experience to that side and can help guide those young players coming through. Tesi Nui is exciting, Herbie Farnworth on the run is fantastic, Kotoni Staggs<\/a> when he gets back from injury, Tyson Gamble<\/a> when he gets back from injury … They have some really good young players."<\/p>\n
