St George Illawarra's Tariq Sims<\/a> has been told by the Dragons<\/a> that he is free to speak to other clubs after contract negotiations with the club took an unexpected turn.<\/p>\n

According to Nine's NRL insider Danny Weidler, Sims was in talks with the club over his desire to extend his contract beyond its current term, till the end of next season.<\/p>\n

However St George Illawarra threw a spanner in the works, which could see the NSW Blues star<\/a> depart the club.<\/p>\n

"Instead of getting an extension, the club said, 'There is no future deal for you. You have you contract for 2022 but if you want to look around for next season, you can go and do that'," Weidler told Nine News on Friday night.<\/p>\n

\"Tariq<\/p>\n

"I haven't talked to Tariq directly but I can imagine he'd be devastated by this, told that he can go and find another club, and now it's going to be up to him whether he wants to stay at the Dragons next season or not.<\/p>\n

"I think this situation is going to develop in coming days. It'll be interesting to hear from Tariq Sims himself."<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old second rower arrived at the Dragons in 2016, and has since played over 100 games for the Red V, scoring 22 tries. <\/p>\n

He made his NRL debut with the North Queensland Cowboys in 2011 before spending a time with the Newcastle Knights in 2015 and part of 2016.<\/p>\n
