Australian Open officials have revealed they're confident Roger Federer will be part of the upcoming tournament, despite the Swiss star revealing he isn't at full fitness following knee surgery.<\/p>\n

The Swiss maestro, has had two surgeries on his right knee in the last 12 months, indicated he might be forced to miss the upcoming February Australian Open tournament<\/a> as he struggles to reach his full fitness in time.<\/p>\n

Federer hasn't played in a Grand Slam match since his semi-final loss to Novak Djokovic at Melbourne Park at the start of 2020.<\/p>\n

However, Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley confirmed he had received a commitment from the game's top players, which included confirmation from Federer that he would be participating once again.<\/p>\n

"We have a commitment from every player in the world to be in Australia," Tiley said.<\/p>\n

\"Roger<\/p>\n

"Obviously it being the start of the season, anything can happen with that entry list, but the commitment is there… Every player, including Roger, have committed."<\/p>\n

According to Tiley, Federer indicated the later state date of February 8 would prove a more suitable time-frame for him to make his return.<\/p>\n

"He said to us that February 8 was a more suitable date for him in terms of preparing for the Australian Open," he added.<\/p>\n

"But a lot will depend on how he responds to his surgery in the next two to three weeks."<\/p>\n
