Four-time AFL premiership player Shaun Burgoyne<\/a> has announced he will retire following the conclusion of the home and away season.<\/p>\n

Burgoyne, 38, will this weekend play his 407th and final game for the Hawks, who clash with Richmond on Saturday in the final round of the season.<\/p>\n

Both sides are out of finals contention.<\/p>\n

Burgoyne's decision comes one month after becoming the fifth player in VFL\/AFL history to reach the 400-game milestone.<\/a> He also holds the all-time Indigenous games record tally.<\/p>\n

"I know I speak on behalf of anyone and everyone that has crossed paths with Shaun over his football journey in saying that it has been an honour to work alongside a man of his character and skill," said Hawks football boss Rob McCartney.<\/p>\n

\"Shaun<\/p>\n

"He is the epitome of what we value at Hawthorn, with his immense commitment to family values whilst also possessing a relentlessness to constantly strive to get the best out of himself as well as those around him.<\/p>\n

"He is an incredible father and husband and on behalf of the Hawthorn Football Club, I would like to wish Shaun, Amy and their four kids Ky, Leni, Percy and Nixie all the best in the next chapter of their lives."<\/p>\n

Before Burgoyne joined the Hawks in 2010, he previously played 157 games for Port Adelaide and was part of the club's maiden premiership in 2004.<\/p>\n

He was then part of Hawthorn's infamous premiership three-peat from 2013-15.<\/p>\n
