{"id":116671,"date":"2021-08-19T06:14:29","date_gmt":"2021-08-19T06:14:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=116671"},"modified":"2021-08-19T15:38:29","modified_gmt":"2021-08-19T15:38:29","slug":"broncos-skipper-fights-tears-in-emotional-farewell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=116671","title":{"rendered":"Broncos skipper fights tears in emotional farewell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An emotional <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/nrl\/alex-glenn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Alex Glenn\">Alex Glenn<\/a> has announced he will call time on his NRL career at the end of the season.<\/p>\n<p>The current skipper of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/brisbane-broncos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Broncos\">Broncos<\/a>, Glenn will call it quits as Brisbane&#x27;s fourth most-capped player of all time.<\/p>\n<p>The 33-year-old has played 282 games for the club and barring injury will add three more games to his tally with the Broncos out of finals contention.<\/p>\n<p>Only Darren Lockyer (355), Corey Parker (347) and Sam Thaiday (304) have played more senior games for the Broncos.<\/p>\n<p>Glenn this afternoon fought back tears as he addressed the media to announce his retirement.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"74f475b0-5acb-4b10-a4da-8dbc2f605fb7\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/74f475b0-5acb-4b10-a4da-8dbc2f605fb7\" alt=\"Alex Glenn\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&quot;It was always a dream come true to play for the Broncos, but to finish my career as a one-club player here is beyond anything I could have imagined,&quot; Glenn said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;There have been plenty of highs and lows but I have never taken for granted how special it is to be able to pull on the Broncos jersey.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The Broncos have a bright future ahead, you can see that by the way we have turned things around this year, and I can&#x27;t wait to see this team grow and succeed in the years ahead.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Glenn revealed he hopes to inspire the next generation of kids in the next stage of his career.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I&#x27;ll be going out and helping kids chase their own dreams,&quot; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;For myself, coming from nothing and to give time to those kids, that&#x27;s something I&#x27;m very passionate about and very grateful to the club to get that opportunity.&quot;<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"976713ee-e0ad-49da-a9b1-90ef67b27bde\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/976713ee-e0ad-49da-a9b1-90ef67b27bde\" alt=\"Alex Glenn\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Broncos coach Kevin Walters lauded the commitment Glenn brought to the club, starting from his early days as a junior.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;For me, he&#x27;s a true Bronco,&quot; Walters said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;He came through our under 20s system and won a (under-20s) Grand Final in 2008 against the Raiders. He&#x27;s been in our system ever since then.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;He&#x27;s a really good leader, we were very fortunate \u2013 and he was very grateful as well \u2013 for him to captain the side over the last two years.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I think his last six weeks of football has typified the reset of the Broncos, he&#x27;s led the way there.
