The Knights<\/a>' crucial 16-14 win<\/a> over the Sharks<\/a> in the race for top-eight berths was soured by a Daniel Saifiti<\/a> injury blow.<\/p>\n

In a potentially thumping hit to Newcastle's top-eight hopes and title ambitions, Saifiti was helped from the field by a medico in the 69th minute and didn't return after suffering an injury to his left knee.<\/p>\n

The NSW Blues<\/a> workhorse halted play for several minutes while he had his left knee strapped and, although he did resume, he failed to last another minute.<\/p>\n

"This would be a massive, massive blow to Newcastle's campaign if Saifiti's done a ligament," said Nine commentator Mat Thompson as the star prop was helped from the field at Brisbane's Moreton Daily Stadium.<\/p>\n

Saifiti, who has a history of knee injuries, hurt his left knee as he took on four Sharks defenders in a hit-up close to the line.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old's knee then buckled again as he was running backward in the Knights' defensive line less than a minute later.<\/p>\n

"You see Aidan Tolman falls on that leg a little bit as it's going down and just gets it into a bad position there," said legendary Eels halfback Peter Sterling<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"You can see the grimace of pain."<\/p>\n

Rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns<\/a> added: "The way that twists, that's the medial ligament on the inside of the knee."<\/p>\n

Newcastle's win over Cronulla has budged them up from ninth to seventh on the ladder ahead of the last three games of the regular season.<\/p>\n

Adam O'Brien<\/a>'s men are set to meet the Bulldogs<\/a>, Titans<\/a> and Broncos<\/a> in a comfortable run to the finals.<\/p>\n

Newcastle are expected to lock up one of the two vacant positions in the top eight, but Saifiti's injury could hinder the Knights' premiership dream.<\/p>\n
