The 24-year-old is a Melbourne fan, thanks to the impact of Stynes and the Reach Foundation, and explained how they impacted him as a directionless teenager.<\/p>\n
"It's great that [Melbourne is] supporting Reach," he told Nine's AFL Sunday Footy Show.<\/em><\/p>\n "I know Jimmy Stynes, he was a great man and he did a lot for me personally. I never met Jim, but through the Reach Foundation, they came into my life when I was about 16 lacking a bit of direction. <\/p>\n "I always had a dream of going to the Olympics and representing Australia at the Olympics and through the Reach Foundation I feel they pushed me in the right direction and the rest is history on the results of my life. <\/p>\n "I'm massive for the work Reach does and that's why I'm trying my best to support Reach as much as I can now because our young people need Reach more than ever with what's going on in the world."<\/p>\n Despite becoming Australia's first boxing medallist in 33 years, Garside set his sights higher for the Paris Games in 2024.<\/p>\n "It's not the colour we wanted," he said while showing off his bronze medal.<\/p>\n "It's alright, we'll train harder and hopefully 2024, Australia's never won a gold medal for boxing, so lets hope in 2024 we can change that."<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
