The Brisbane Lions<\/a> have given themselves an outside chance of securing the double chance in the finals after a commanding home win over Collingwood<\/a> drew them closer to a top-four spot on the ladder.<\/p>\n

After a tightly-contested opening quarter, the Lions blew the match open by kicking 14 combined goals in the second and third quarters, before running out 22. 10. (142) to 8. 9. (57) winners<\/a> at the Gabba. <\/p>\n

The win cemented Brisbane's fifth spot on the ladder, but after the Western Bulldogs' shock loss to Hawthorn on Saturday, Chris Fagan's side is now just four points adrift of the fourth-placed Bulldogs, with a percentage of 1.8 per cent separating the two teams. <\/p>\n

After a brief patch of good form in recent weeks, Collingwood crashed back down to earth in the middle quarters, prompting a heated exchange between Jordan De Goey<\/a> and Brayden Maynard. <\/p>\n

The incident occurred at the three-quarter time siren when cameras caught the pair in a heated argument, pointing to different positions on the ground as they walked towards the Magpies' huddle. <\/p>\n

However, despite the gesticulating and visible frustration from the two Magpies stars, Richmond great Matthew Richardson downplayed the incident.<\/p>\n

"Nothing wrong with it," Richardson said on the Seven Network's coverage. "Obviously something there that De Goey wasn't quite sure of with Maynard."<\/p>\n

"It's probably something to do with their ball movement out of the D50, I'd say."<\/p>\n

De Goey continued his bright form under interim coach Robert Harvey, finishing with 27 disposals and a goal, while Jack Crisp led the Magpies with 30 touches. <\/p>\n

Brisbane's efforts were led by a dominant midfield performance with Jarryd Lyons (29 disposals, one goal), Dayne Zorko (28 disposals), Hugh McCluggage (30 disposals, one goal), Zac Bailey (27 disposals, one goal) and Lachie Neale (30 disposals, one goal) running riot.<\/p>\n

The Lions' forward line was also at its destructive best with Charlie Cameron kicking six straight goals, while Joe Daniher and Daniel McStay booted three goals apiece.<\/p>\n

Brisbane will host the West Coast Eagles in Round 23, and will hope the Bulldogs are beaten by Port Adelaide so they can secure a top four spot.<\/p>\n
