Eels coach Brad Arthur <\/a>has labelled speculation around his future amid Parramatta's recent slide as "crazy".<\/p>\n

Arthur has been under the pump in recent weeks as the Eels battle to hold on to their place in the top four. With remaining games against the Sea Eagles<\/a>, Cowboys, Storm and Panthers over the next month, the Eels could drop as low as sixth by the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Arthur fronted the media this morning in the face of burning questions hovering of the team following three straight losses.<\/p>\n

The under-fire Parramatta coach addressed reports about captain Clint Gutherson's future, supporting the idea of putting contract talks on hold until the end of the season. He also rejected claims details of the skipper's asking price were leaked from within the club.<\/p>\n

Arthur insisted he's happy with his staff and the recruitment policies in place<\/a>, despite reports of a clash of philosophies between the coach and general manager Mark O'Neil. The bewildered Eels mentor admitted to being puzzled by the focus on his future.<\/p>\n

"There's 12 teams right now that sit below us, so if you want me to be real honest I think it's crazy that we're sitting here talking about my job," Arthur said.<\/p>\n

\"Parramatta<\/p>\n

"But all I know is that I'm doing the best I can and the players are doing the best they can.<\/p>\n

"Yeah our form is down a little bit, but we can easily turn that around.<\/p>\n

"But I'm fully aware of the consequences and the reliability and the actions that we have, they fall on my shoulders."<\/p>\n

A fourth straight loss will see them drop out of the top four this Saturday against Manly, with the Eels facing top tier teams in the run home to the finals. <\/p>\n

Arthur said all the talk surrounding the team will ease if they can snap their losing streak against Des Hasler's side, while dismissing claims his team is short of star players to get them over the line.<\/p>\n

"I've been coaching for eight years now. We hadn't even played a game at the start of the year and there was already some conjecture around my position," Arthur said.<\/p>\n

"As a playing group, they're very good in terms of (what) we don't discuss. I never have, in the time I have been here around what is said in the media.<\/p>\n

"A win takes away all the noise.<\/p>\n

"The club has done a very good job to give us a squad. I've never once complained in eight years of the squad that we have to work with.<\/p>\n

"We're a blue-collar workman-type squad where we need all 17 players each week to do their job."<\/p>\n
