North Melbourne<\/a> great Corey McKernan has issued a stinging response to the latest line of suggestions that the Kangaroos could be the team moved to Tasmania permanently.<\/p>\n

Former Geelong president Colin Carter delivered a long-awaited report to the AFL on Friday, indicating that Tasmania did deserve a standalone team, and gave the league three options on how to proceed.<\/p>\n

However, AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan stated that the best option for Tasmania would be the relocation of an existing Victorian team, prompting many to believe he was referring to North Melbourne. <\/p>\n

The insinuation that the Kangaroos could be moved left McKernan, a two-time premiership player with North, seething.<\/p>\n

"You all want clear information and I shouldn't say this: F–k off and stop with the conversation around [North Melbourne] moving," McKernan tweeted in response to a report from Seven Network reporter Tom Browne.<\/p>\n

"Debt eliminated\/45k members\/list going places. Suggest there's Melb teams with $15 mil debt that are at the front of that relocation talk."<\/p>\n

McKernan wasn't the only high-profile figure to go in to bat for the Kangaroos, with former Port Adelaide skipper Warren Tredrea also chiming in.<\/p>\n

"Why does Tasmania having a team in the [AFL] always turn to [North Melbourne] being relocated?" Tredrea tweeted.<\/p>\n

"Kangaroos are a proud part of VFL\/AFL history."<\/p>\n

McLachlan's comments sparked a reaction from a number of experts, including Richmond great and Tasmanian native, Matthew Richardson.<\/p>\n

Tasmanian native Jack Riewoldt also suggested that the state needed its own standalone team, suggesting that a relocation would simply be "tokenism" by the AFL.<\/p>\n

"I feel like that is just tokenism if they do that. It's not the way forward for Tassie footy," the triple premiership Tiger told SEN Hobart.<\/p>\n

"I'm certainly of the belief that I don't think a relocated team would work and I don't think a joint venture (would work).<\/p>\n

"Hawthorn and North Melbourne play four games at either end of the state. Whilst it's great to have AFL football in Tasmania, I think the 19th licence is certainly the one \u2013 and the main driver in this has been premier Peter Gutwein.<\/p>\n

"I think he sees this as his legacy piece."<\/p>\n
