Raiders forward Corey Harawira-Naera will likely be set for time on the sidelines after he was sent off for a shoulder charge late in the second half of Canberra's 26-16 loss to Melbourne.<\/a><\/p>\n

With the game in the balance late in the second half, Harawira-Naera attempted to put a big shot on Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes, with Canberra desperately needing the ball back while trailing by six points.<\/p>\n

But the timing for the 26-year-old couldn't have been much worse as the Canberra forward made contact to the head of Hughes, who was forced off the field and didn't return with five minutes remaining in the game.<\/p>\n

Tempers between both teams momentarily flared with both sides getting into a push-and-shove before Referee Gerard Sutton sent Harawira-Naera off the field.<\/p>\n

"That's a shoulder charge to the head," Mat Thompson said in commentary for Nine.<\/p>\n

\"Corey<\/p>\n

"The intention of the referee is a send-off. You heard the initial call, it's high and forceful. They're the two items on the checklist."<\/p>\n

Rugby league great Phil Gould said the tackle wasn't anything malicious, rather a simple miss-timing.<\/p>\n

"He was down low, Hughes. Corey Harawira-Naera just miss-timed his impact," Gould said.<\/p>\n

"Let's check on Hughes first, it was a heavy knock. That will be his (Hughes) night, he will go off.<\/p>\n

"He's taken a heavy knock here.<\/p>\n

"Harawira-Naera was taken away with the enthusiasm of his teammates. Everyone was racing up and getting big hits and he said I will get in for mine.<\/p>\n

\"Jack<\/p>\n

"He got it wrong. It's not in Corey's nature, he's just miss-timed that.<\/p>\n

"Corey looking for a shot on the ball gets a shot on the head. He wouldn't have meant to do that, it's just how it turned out."<\/p>\n

Cowboys legend Johnathan Thurston said he would not be surprised if Harawira-Naera was suspended for the remainder of the regular season. <\/p>\n

"He's going to be in a lot of strife, Corey," Thurston said.<\/p>\n

"It's a tackle that has certainly gone wrong. I don't know if he'll see out the end of the year\u2026He's going to be in for a long stint on the sideline\u2026It's gone horribly wrong, I don't know how you're going to defend that."<\/p>\n
