Roosters coach Trent Robinson<\/a> says the NRL <\/a>has become confused about a recent crackdown on crusher tackles and fears a player will miss a critical match because of inconsistencies by the match review committee and the judiciary.<\/p>\n

The comments come after star player Angus Crichton was given a three-game ban on Tuesday for a crusher tackle on Penrith's Liam Martin.<\/p>\n

Robinson argued that Martin fell into the tackle and the lack of clarity from the match review committee is a major concern heading into the finals.<\/p>\n

"If you waste your time trying to work out what the match review committee are doing, then you're wasting your energy," he said. "For someone to miss three games, it's just incredible."<\/p>\n

Robinson said the club chose not to fight the charge at the judiciary because crusher tackles were rarely overturned.<\/p>\n

"From one end, they will put out an excuse that there were mitigating factors, therefore someone didn't get charged, but when there are mitigating factors on the other end, they will say that was a traditional crusher," he said.<\/p>\n

The Roosters coach said officials adjudicating over recent crusher tackles have been incorrect and the club had spent a lot of money this year fighting charges.<\/p>\n

"They're more varied than they've ever been before," Robinson said in relation to the match review committee. "They're more unsure of what a crackdown looks like."<\/p>\n

After their clash against Penrith, the Roosters took aim at the way the match was officiated when Jared Waerea-Hargreaves was sin-binned during the game<\/a> before Martin escaped the bin after committing the same offence.<\/p>\n

NRL head of football Graham Annesley responded to the claims<\/a>, saying each incident has to be judged independently.<\/p>\n

"There are degrees of severity in every incident. Some incidents will result in a penalty, and nothing more than a penalty," he said. "Some incidents will result in the need for a penalty and harsher action, a sin bin.<\/p>\n

"Every incident requires a response based on the degree and severity of the incident."<\/p>\n
