Carlton<\/a> have denied top Melbourne radio announcer Neil Mitchell's report that under-fire coach David Teague<\/a> has been told this will be his last season in the job.<\/p>\n

Speaking on his 3AW Mornings show, Mitchell reported that Teague had yesterday been told in a meeting that he wouldn't be Carlton's coach in 2022, following the Blues' dismal 19-point loss to the Gold Coast Suns<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The defeats means Carlton's finals drought, which stretches back to 2013, has extended to another year. Teague is under contract until the end of next season.<\/p>\n

But Carlton have rejected the story.<\/p>\n

"I just got a tip from a reasonable source, so it's a red-hot tip unconfirmed, that the coach of Carlton, Teague, has been told, was told yesterday in fact, that his tenure will finish at the end of the year," Mitchell said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

"So Teague is out and there will be other changes, as well; other people within the club will be no longer required.<\/p>\n

"That's unconfirmed, but it would seem to make sense."<\/p>\n

Mitchell then informed listeners that Carlton had responded to his report.<\/p>\n

"Carlton footy club have been in touch. They say there was no meeting with David Teague yesterday," Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

"Look, if it hasn't happened yet, it will happen."<\/p>\n

The Blues have fallen short of finals footy for the 16th time in 20 years.<\/p>\n

Teague began his tenure as coach on an impressive note, leading Carlton to six wins from their last 11 games of the 2019 season.<\/p>\n

But the Blues mentor has achieved very little since transitioning from interim to permanent coach late in Carlton's 2019 campaign.<\/p>\n

Carlton mustered just seven wins in 2020 on their way to an 11th-placed finish, before slumping to 13th on the ladder with eight wins from 20 matches late in the 2021 season.<\/p>\n

North Melbourne icon David King<\/a> expects that Teague has very few days left as Carlton coach.<\/p>\n

"I feel for him as a former teammate of mine, but if you're just going to look at what's happening with this business, then there's only one likely outcome and I think we all know that and I think David probably knows that … When you know, rip the band-aid off; it is better for all parties," King said on SEN.<\/p>\n

"It might be hard for Carlton to go for the next two games with a coach that they didn't really want or a set-up having already lost a couple of people from their footy department.<\/p>\n

"It may be a bit ugly, but there's nothing uglier than the slow death. Nothing."<\/p>\n
