St George Illawarra has announced the signing of former South Sydney front-rower George Burgess to a two-year deal.<\/p>\n

Burgess, who famously played 150 games for the Rabbitohs between 2012-2019, will officially make his return to the NRL next season following a stint with English Super League club Wigan.<\/p>\n

A hip injury ended the 29-year-old's stint with Wigan in 2020, after just eight games.<\/p>\n

Rumours of the premiership-winning prop making a return to the NRL<\/a> had been swirling for weeks, with the club officially confirming the news today.<\/p>\n

"George will make a significant contribution to us here at the Dragons on and off the field; his experience and career achievements will only have a positive influence on the development of the younger players currently within our squad," said Dragons football boss Ben Haran.<\/p>\n

"While he has some obstacles still to overcome following his well-documented surgery, our medical staff have already commenced working with George on his rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

"Everyone is committed to helping George get back to his fighting best ahead of the 2022 season, but no person more than George himself. We're looking forward to him and his family joining the club."<\/p>\n
