Dani Pedrosa was involved in a fiery crash at the Styrian Grand Prix<\/a>, his first MotoGP race for nearly three years.<\/p>\n

Pedrosa crashed at turn three on the third lap of Sunday's race at the Red Bull Ring and his bike came to rest mid-track; right on the racing line.<\/p>\n

Lorenzo Savadori came into the turn unsighted and crashed his Aprilia straight into Pedrosa's KTM. Both bikes burst into flames, though the both riders were well clear when the fire started.<\/p>\n

The race was red flagged as track marshals tended to the wreckage. Pedrosa was unharmed but Savadori suffered a broken ankle and will miss next weekend's Austrian GP.<\/p>\n

"A rough start in the first race because I don't know why I had this crash," said Pedrosa, a wildcard for KTM after retiring from full-time racing in 2018.<\/p>\n

"I think it was third lap and maybe I touched the inside line or maybe the tyre was too cold on the right-hand ride; I was using the hard compound on the front with these colder conditions today.<\/p>\n

"I don't know why, I went into the turn when I was at maximum angle and I just tried to pick up the bike out of the turn and the bike didn't pick up and I stayed on the floor.<\/p>\n

"I spun in the middle of the track, unfortunately Savadori hit my bike and he's hurt, so I'm sorry for him.<\/p>\n

"But I was very lucky, I don't think I had this situation before in my career, so it was a little bit of a shock seeing all the bikes passing by one side and the other. But fortunately, it was all good for me."<\/p>\n

Pedrosa was able to race in the 27-lap restart and finished 10th. The race was won by Jorge Martin of Ducati-Pramac, who earned his first MotoGP victory. Reinging world champion Joan Mir finished second and championship leader Fabio Quartararo was third.<\/p>\n

Australia's Jack Miller was in fourth when he crashed with 10 laps left. It was the second race in a row that he's failed to finish and a hammer blow to his hopes of making a title run. He's now in fifth place, 72 points behind French star Quartararo.<\/p>\n

Miller later weighed in on the fiery crash, which caused a red flag for the third consecutive MotoGP race at the Red Bull Ring.<\/p>\n

"Today's red flag was a bit different," Miller said.<\/p>\n

"That can happen in any track, when one bike crashes and another one hits it when everything is so close together. So, I don't think that was the track's fault today."<\/p>\n
