Port Adelaide defender Aliir Aliir<\/a> is the latest footballer to be subjected to racial abuse on social media, with the club vowing to "continue to challenge and report racism".<\/p>\n

Aliir took out the Showdown Medal against crosstown rivals Adelaide after picking up 21 disposals to go along with 12 marks in the Power's thrilling win.<\/p>\n

Following the match, the 26-year-old Kenyan native was hit with vile social media abuse, and his club condemned the behaviour in a statement on Sunday.<\/p>\n

"Our game is built on bravery and courage, commitment and togetherness," the Power statement read.<\/p>\n

"There is nothing brave or courageous about using social media to racially abuse or personally vilify a player.<\/p>\n

"Racism is divisive and hurtful and has no place in our game or in society more broadly. It has to stop.<\/p>\n

\"Aliir<\/p>\n

"We will continue to challenge and report racism. There is simply no room for it online, in the stands or in our homes.<\/p>\n

"We need to be better."<\/p>\n

The abuse to Aliir follows numerous racist social media attacks on Indigenous stars Bradley Hill, Paddy Ryder, Charlie Cameron, Eddie Betts<\/a>, Liam Ryan and Neville Jetta in recent years.<\/p>\n

AFLPA president Patrick Dangerfield and AFLPA CEO Paul Marsh also slammed the behaviour of fans online.<\/p>\n

"Still happening," Dangerfield tweeted.<\/p>\n

"When will people learn? Do better, be better and demand more. Let's eradicate this vile behaviour."<\/p>\n

"Another aborrent example of racism on social media, made even worse by the person hiding behind an anonymous account," Marsh tweeted.<\/p>\n

"Extremely disappointing given the sharp focus on the issue this week."<\/p>\n

The abuse to Aliir comes after a week which saw Adelaide veteran Taylor Walker handed a six-match ban<\/a> for a racial slur made during a SANFL contest last month.<\/p>\n

Following the Walker ban, former teammate Betts, who has been subjected to racism throughout his stellar career, urged the Crows star "to learn".<\/p>\n

"He needs to own it. And he needs to work towards educating himself to be anti-racist, educating people around him, calling people out on racism when he hears it. Doing that is the only way we're all going to move forward on this," Betts told The Age.<\/a><\/p>\n

"And when it comes to racism, we're not moving forward \u2013 we're going backwards. The sad thing is that I'm used to it. That's the sad thing. We as Aboriginal people are used to it. And we keep fighting, but it's hard."<\/p>\n
