Newly crowned men's 100m champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs reportedly split with his nutritionist in March, amid reports of a police investigation into whether his nutritionist was involved in the distribution of anabolic steroids.<\/p>\n

The Italian's agent, Marcello Magnani, told The Telegraph<\/em> that Jacobs severed ties with Giacomo Spazzini when he heard about the investigation, categorically denying the double gold medallist had ever used performance enhancing drugs.<\/p>\n

Jacobs won the 100m at the Tokyo Olympics earlier this week in a personal best time of 9.80 seconds, and was also a part of the Italian team that won gold in the 4x100m relay.<\/p>\n

His gold medal winning time was the quickest ever by an athlete from outside the United States or Jamaica, and makes him the 10th fastest man in history.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old was a surprise winner of the race, having not broken the 10 second barrier before May this year.<\/p>\n

The Telegraph<\/em> reports that Spazzini is a body builder and fitness consultant. It further quotes a statement from Magnani, that confirms Jacobs stopped working with Spazzini in March, "as soon as he has known about the investigation."<\/p>\n

According to The Times,<\/em> a police inquiry was examining alleged links between Spazzini "and an unnamed individual accused of providing illegally procured growth hormones and anabolic steroids".<\/p>\n

A spokesman for the police in Italy told The Times<\/em> the investigation "had not concerned the athlete Marcell Jacobs." Wide World of Sports does not suggest that Jacobs' performance in the 100m is in any way related to steroid use.<\/p>\n

Spazzini's lawyer told The Times<\/em> that evidence has emerged "that exonerate my client of all responsibility."<\/p>\n
