Carlton<\/a> have fallen short of finals footy for the 16th time in 20 years and it's sent social media into meltdown.<\/p>\n

It was an appalling 19-point defeat to the Suns<\/a> at Docklands Stadium that put a definitive line through the Blues' 2021 finals hopes, meaning their finals drought dating back to 2013 has stretched out to another year.<\/p>\n

Since 2002, Carlton have only featured in the finals in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013, all while the legendary Chris Judd was at the club.<\/p>\n

And their 2013 qualification has an asterisk next to it, as they took the spot of eighth-placed Essendon<\/a> after the Bombers were penalised for their infamous 2012 supplements program<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Blues' latest loss leaves them reeling in 12th on the ladder with two games remaining and has all but sealed coach David Teague<\/a>'s fate, as the club undergoes an extensive review.<\/p>\n

While the Carlton mentor is contracted to the Blues until the end of 2022, there's a strong feeling that he hasn't done enough since taking over in the 12th round of the 2019 season to see out the term.<\/p>\n

Sam McClure of The Age, a noted Blues fan, lamented what he had seen from his beloved side against Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

"Imagine being a Carlton supporter in lockdown," McClure wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n

Corbin Middlemas of ABC Sport posted: "Is there a more Carlton thing than that?"<\/p>\n

And grave doubts over Teague's future as coach poured in.<\/p>\n

"The Teague train is heading back to the depot," wrote Daniel Cherny of The Age.<\/p>\n

Paying reference to gun Gold Coast midfielder Touk Miller, Daniel Garb of ABC Sport wrote: "The Touk train derails the Teague train."<\/p>\n

Former Seven footy journalist Mark Stevens dropped a lengthier tweet.<\/p>\n

"David Teague can't survive this season," Stevens said.<\/p>\n

"And credit to the Suns. Looked like they wanted it more, which is a big part of Teague's problem!"<\/p>\n

And Tribal Sports Group founder and managing director Lou Sticca wrote: "Goodbye finals, goodbye season 2021 and most likely goodbye David Teague. This is now a regular feeling for the last 26 years."<\/p>\n
