An uncomfortable interview following China's first ever field gold medal has left viewers angry and frustrated at the Tokyo Olympics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Chinese shot put gold medalist Gong Lijiao threw an incredible personal best of 20.58m in the women's shot put final in a memorable moment for the communist nation.<\/p>\n

But instead of focusing on her once in a lifetime achievement, viewers were left fuming as she was quizzed on her weight, appearance and love life.<\/p>\n

In an interview that aired on China's state-owned network CCTV after the win, reporter Lu You questioned the shot-put champion about her looks.<\/p>\n

"You used to be a masculine woman for the sake of shot-put. But moving forward, can you be yourself?" she asked.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old seemed taken aback, saying she has been focused on her career for years and with time things will no doubt change.<\/p>\n

"If I don't train later on, then maybe I will lose weight, and then get married and have kids," she said.<\/p>\n

"The path one must walk in life."<\/p>\n

The athlete was then asked if she had a boyfriend, what qualities she favoured in a partner, and who would win in an arm wrestle between her and a prospective partner.<\/p>\n

Users on Chinese microblogging site Weibo expressed their displeasure over the line of questioning and the discussion topic, named "Is marriage the only thing we can discuss about women?", focused on the interview, was read 360 million times, and generated 161 posts.<\/p>\n

Weibo users pointed out that there were more interesting things to talk about than marriage especially after such a life defining moment.<\/p>\n

Lijiao herself came across the discussion online and left a comment agreeing that the questions were out of line.<\/p>\n

"This completely says what I'm thinking!" she wrote from her official Weibo account.<\/p>\n
