Hannah Green stormed up the leaderboard in the third round today and now there's a chance a tropical storm might assure the Australian golfer of a Tokyo Olympics<\/a> medal.<\/p>\n

Green carded a four-under par 67 at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Saitama, a round that included a red-hot run of four birdies in five holes to move into a share of third place with a round remaining.<\/p>\n

At 10-under for the tournament, the West Australian sits tied with New Zealand's Lydia Ko, Denmark's Emily Kristine Pedersen and Japan's Mone Inami, with only USA's Nelly Korda (-15) and India's Aditi Ashok (-12) ahead of them.<\/p>\n

A long putt to save par on the 18th might prove crucial for Green.<\/p>\n

The other Aussie in the field, Minjee Lee, dropped down the leaderboard with a two-over 73 to be in a tie for 34th at one-under overall.<\/p>\n

However, with a tropical storm forecast to hit on Saturday, there's a chance that's how the women's golf tournament in Tokyo will finish.<\/p>\n

That would mean Green would win a bronze medal with the three others at -10.<\/p>\n

"We want to give the athletes every opportunity to play 72 holes, in line with what we would do for major championships," Olympic technical delegate Heather Daly-Donofrio told the Golf Channel.<\/p>\n

"The players have known since yesterday that we may have to shorten to 54 (holes), but we want to give them every opportunity to play."<\/p>\n

There's the possibility that officials could use Sunday as a reserve day, but the inclement weather might drag on through the second half of the weekend.<\/p>\n
