Australia's Peter Bol has narrowly missed out on an Olympic medal, finishing fourth in a sensational run in the men's 800m final.<\/a><\/p>\n

Bol ran a clinical race, leading the pack from the get-go and sparking the initial breakaway where he looked in good stead to finish on the podium.<\/p>\n

But coming around the final bend, the Aussie began to wane as he lost his wind on the final 50 metres, holding on for fourth place.<\/p>\n

"I put myself in every chance, the only thing I regret is the last 100," Bol said after the race.<\/p>\n

"I'd be lying if I said I was pretty happy right now, the goal was to win. So, we'll still have to reflect upon that.<\/p>\n

"Today, I didn't know if I was going to win but I knew one thing for certain, all of Australia was watching, that's what carried me on.<\/p>\n

"I'm grateful to everyone in Australia, and thankful because we're all human at the end of the day. We inspired the whole nation and that's the goal."<\/p>\n

Kenya's Emmanuel Korir claimed gold, followed by countryman Ferguson Rotich in second, while Poland's Patryk Dobek took third.<\/p>\n

Bol was the first Australian to make an Olympic 800m final since 1968. His fourth-place finish is the highest by an Australian male on the track since Darren Clark's fourth in the 400m in 1988 \u2013 33 years ago.<\/p>\n

The Aussie set social media alight with his courageous run where he took it right up to the favourites.<\/p>\n
