{"id":111065,"date":"2021-08-03T16:33:12","date_gmt":"2021-08-03T16:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=111065"},"modified":"2021-08-03T16:57:29","modified_gmt":"2021-08-03T16:57:29","slug":"iglesias-joins-cuban-olympic-boxing-greats-with-tokyo-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=111065","title":{"rendered":"Iglesias joins Cuban Olympic boxing greats with Tokyo gold"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin: 5px 5% 10px 5%\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/arysports.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Roniel-Iglesias.jpg\" width=\"742\" height=\"486\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"header\"><strong><span class=\"city\">Tokyo: <\/span>Roniel Iglesias added his name to Cuba&#8217;s Olympic boxing hall of fame after winning a second gold medal on Tuesday, as women fighters voiced their determination to get more girls into the sport.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 32-year-old Iglesias put on a masterclass to defeat British hope Pat McCormack on unanimous points and claim the welterweight title in style in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>Iglesias has now won three Olympic medals, adding Tokyo gold to his London 2012 light-welterweight gold and bronze at Beijing 2008.<\/p>\n<p>In doing so he joins a star cast of Cuban boxers to seal a hat-trick of Olympic boxing medals. They also include Felix Savon (three gold), Teofilo Stevenson (three gold) and Lazaro Alvarez (three bronze).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Read:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/arysports.tv\/belgium-thrashes-india-in-semi-final-of-tokyo-olympics-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Belgium thrashes India in semi-final of Tokyo Olympics 2020<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Iglesias, who failed to win a medal at the Rio 2016\u00a0Olympics, said he does not plan to stop there and is already eyeing the Paris 2024 Games.<\/p>\n<p>He said that, following injury and his disappointment in Rio, some people in Cuba had written him off.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are always fans who have their opinions and it is true that many people thought that Roniel would not make it in these Games,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Many people said that this was the end of the line for me.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But only us boxers know what is happening, we know the injuries that we suffer and what we have to overcome.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I always knew that I had it in me.
