Strumming on his guitar and leading the Wallabies in a rendition of 'I Am Australian<\/em>,' Dave Rennie continues to underline his fair dinkum coaching credentials ahead of the Bledisloe Cup opener on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Stan Sport's latest edition of Rugby Heaven<\/em><\/a> shared the intimate vision from Wallabies camp as Rennie looks to build on the gains made in the thrilling 2-1 series win over France last month.<\/a><\/p>\n

Wallabies prop Allan Alaalatoa joined the show from the team's training base in Tauranga and said Rennie's performance was far from a cameo.<\/p>\n

"Yeah he does (regularly get the guitar out)," Alaalatoa said.<\/p>\n

"He believes every opportunity we can connect off the field we do that by a small way of singing songs at nighttime when we have our team meeting. He's very skilful on the guitar, he's got a good ear so he's able to pick up any tune within minutes.<\/p>\n

"The way that we learn the songs, we normally put them up on the screen and then after a couple of weeks of learning it, our video analyst turns off the screen to see how many of the boys know the lyrics off by heart."<\/p>\n

Former All Blacks lock Ross Filipo, who has known Rennie since he was 14, described his former Chiefs mentor as "a great singer."<\/p>\n

"Very honest, he loves a laugh, he'll sit there and have a joke," Filipo said.<\/p>\n

"He's very charismatic, he's just a good bastard, to be honest."<\/p>\n

The buildup to the first Bledisloe Test at Eden Park has understandably been overshadowed by the Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

But Rennie's recall of Quade Cooper to the Test squad managed to grab a few headlines – as well as the All Blacks' attention.<\/p>\n

In a chat with Rugby Heaven's<\/em> Sean Maloney, halfback Brad Weber admitted it had caught the Kiwis by surprise.<\/p>\n

"Renz up to his old tricks, he probably enjoys bringing a lot of those experienced guys back to help out," Weber said of his former Chiefs coach.<\/p>\n

"They've obviously got a young 10 with Noah (Lolesio) who's played a bit but still a young man. He'll obviously help and Renz has obviously seen a few things that he likes out of Quade and wants to bring in.<\/p>\n

"You can never be too surprised with old Renz, I've learnt, over the years."<\/p>\n

The Wallabies are facing the ultimate test of back-to-back games at the All Blacks' Eden Park fortress with the second Test shifted to Auckland on August 14.<\/p>\n

A sellout crowd is expected – a rare treat in the pandemic era.<\/p>\n

"We're going to need everyone of them there too, on Saturday," Weber said.<\/p>\n

"That's probably the good thing about Jacinda (Ardern) locking down the old borders – we don't let many of you guys (Australians) back in to create too much support so it should be heavily on our side."<\/p>\n
