Police arrived after the incident, Muto said at a news briefing, without identifying the athletes or any team involved or what action, if any, officers took.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/olympics\/tokyo-olympics-2021-live-updates-day-10-news-athletics-results-peter-bol-hockeyroos-matildas-sweden-gold-medal-tally\/6cf647d4-1d9b-4211-b9c0-3250f83fccfb\" target=\"\" title=\"OLYMPICS LIVE BLOG: UPDATES, LATEST NEWS\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>OLYMPICS LIVE BLOG: UPDATES, LATEST NEWS<\/strong><\/em><\/a> <em><strong>|<\/strong><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/olympics\/tokyo-games-event-centre\" target=\"\" title=\"TOKYO GAMES EVENT CENTRE: SCHEDULE, RESULTS, MEDAL TALLY\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>TOKYO GAMES EVENT CENTRE: SCHEDULE, RESULTS, MEDAL TALLY<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 11,000 athletes at the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/olympics\/tokyo-olympics\" title=\"Tokyo Olympics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tokyo Olympics<\/a> were warned before the Games that drinking alcohol in groups was a breach of the so-called playbook rules intended to limit COVID-19 infections.<\/p>\n<p>Athletes were told they could drink alone in their rooms at the complex of 21 residential towers next to Tokyo Bay.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"83af6ec9-49ca-491b-b027-82586656de75\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/83af6ec9-49ca-491b-b027-82586656de75\" alt=\"Vazha Margvelashvili wins silver\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the most serious cases of rule-breaking, athletes can be removed from the village and have their Olympic credential taken away.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We are investigating the situation and based on the result we are to take appropriate action,&quot; Muto said through an interpreter.<\/p>\n<p>Two medal-winning athletes lost their Olympic accreditation during the week for taking an authorised tourist trip outside the village.<\/p>\n<p>Vazha Margvelashvili and Lasha Shavdatuashvili, who both won silver medals for Georgia in judo, were seen near Tokyo Tower on Tuesday after their events finished, which Muto described as a &quot;clear and serious violation&quot; of the rules.<\/p>\n<p>The Georgian embassy in Tokyo later apologised for the incident.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"66c4a382-bcce-457f-a0db-64bd3e1c2a7e\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/66c4a382-bcce-457f-a0db-64bd3e1c2a7e\" alt=\"Lasha Shavdatuashvili\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Four others with their accreditation stripped were contractors from Britain and the USA who were <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/olympics\/tokyo-olympics-2021-news-australian-equestrian-cocaine-jamie-kermond-positive-test\/39888bdf-d457-4da3-a0c6-8953b72e8a30\" title=\"arrested for allegedly using cocaine prior to the official opening\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">arrested for allegedly using cocaine prior to the official opening<\/a> of the Tokyo Games.<\/p>\n<p>Muto said that a total of eight Games credentials have been temporarily suspended.<\/p>\n<p>Athletes are under strict orders not to go outside the Olympic bubble and mix with people living in Japan to help avoid the spread of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>Tokyo and the rest of Japan are both recording record numbers of daily COVID-19 cases during the Olympics, which are being held amid a state of emergency in the city and neighboring prefectures.<\/p>\n<p>The tally of Olympic-accredited people who tested positive for COVID-19 since July 1 rose to 264 in figures announced Sunday. Tokyo organisers said one athlete who stayed in the village was among 18 new cases.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"f2b498bb-96ce-46bf-9561-61bb68e71ce2\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/f2b498bb-96ce-46bf-9561-61bb68e71ce2\" alt=\"Tokyo Olympics 2021\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A total of 27 athletes are among the 264 overall cases, though not all stayed in the athletes village.<\/p>\n<p>The overall total includes 108 visitors to Japan, with 35 identified in more than 41,000 mandatory tests taken upon arrival at airports in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Muto said one Games-accredited visitor to Japan was being treated in the hospital, though no person infected had serious symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if holding the Olympics had contributed to the rising number of infections in Japan, Muto repeated previous comments from Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga that there was &quot;no correlation.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Muto did acknowledge concern about the number of infections among contractors living in Japan who were working at the Olympics.
