When they failed to clear 2.39, they were informed by officials that they could share the gold medal rather than have a jump-off for first, the pair shook hands, with Tamberi letting out a scream of joy as he embraced Barshim.<\/p>\n
"It is amazing, man," Barshim said. "To share it with Marco is an amazing feeling. It is a great feeling. I'm really happy."<\/p>\n
The win means Barshim completes the set of Olympic medals in the high jump, having won bronze in 2012 and silver in 2016.<\/p>\n

For Tamberi it's a remarkable comeback after a broken foot in 2016 nearly ended his career. He celebrated his gold medal by producing the cast he wore five years ago.<\/p>\n
