Australian young gun Rohan Browning<\/a> has blitzed round one of the men's 100m in Tokyo<\/a> on Saturday night, winning his heat as he stormed into the semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Browning was given lane one and made a striking impression, even beating the silver medallist of the 100m final at the 2012 London Olympics, Jamaican great Yohan Blake.<\/p>\n

Browning clocked a personal best of 10.01 and is now set to compete in the semi-finals just after 8pm on Sunday (AEST), after setting the sixth-fastest time of the heats.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old is the second-fastest Australian of all time, behind Patrick Johnson (9.93 in 2003), and on Saturday night he ran the fastest time ever of any Australian at an Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

"I was saying to the other guys, when you're in lane one you don't get a personalised introduction and I was definitely trying too hard \u2026 I don't think I helped my Stawell handicap for next year," Browning laughed.<\/p>\n

"I had a look at the start list when the heat came out and I thought, 'Geez, I've probably got one of the stiffest heats'. But you'd rather do it the hard way \u2026 because it's much more satisfying that way. And you've got to front up to everybody at some point anyway."<\/p>\n

Browning has been hyped up in the media as a genuine chance to make the final, but the New South Welshman has greater ambitions than that.<\/p>\n

"Finals and beyond (are what I'm aiming for)," Browning said.<\/p>\n

"There are a lot of media pundits writing really well-meaning stories about how great it would be to make the final, but I've never been here just to make the final, no matter what the bookies say, the pundits or the punters.<\/p>\n

"I hope there are a few more believers tonight."<\/p>\n
