As the Hockeyroos chase glory at the Tokyo Games<\/a>, they've done what every other Australian gold-medal Olympic team couldn't do, winning all games in the pool phase.<\/p>\n

Australia won gold at Seoul in 1988, Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000, but in each of those Olympic campaigns they all had at least one draw.<\/p>\n

The modern-day Hockeyroos today clinched a 2-0 victory over Argentina to round out a dream run in the pool phase, following wins over Spain, China<\/a>, Japan and New Zealand<\/a> en route to topping Pool B.<\/p>\n

The Katrina Powell-coached outfit is now set to face the winner of tonight's clash between India and Ireland in a quarter-final on Monday.<\/p>\n

Powell played in the Hockeyroos' victorious 1996 and 2000 Olympic teams and is now aiming to repeat the heroics as coach, after taking control of the side in March on the back of an independent review into Hockey Australia's toxic culture<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It was Savannah Fitzpatrick and Emily Chalker, the leading scorer of all teams with five goals in Tokyo, who found the net as the Kookaburras capitalised on another exceptional defensive showing.<\/p>\n

The Hockeyroos conceded just one goal in the pool phase, against Spain in their opening match of the Games, and were at their defensive best against four-time Olympic medallists Argentina.<\/p>\n

They seized their chance in the 49th minute, Fitzpatrick swooping when Argentina's Valentina Raposo Ruiz had a defensive howler. The Queensland Scorchers striker received the ball at the top of the circle and hammered a back-stick shot into the net.<\/p>\n

Chalker then added the Hockeyroos' second goal of the match with just over a minute remaining, icing a slick passage of play involving Fitzpatrick and Steph Kershaw.<\/p>\n

Hockeyroos captain Jane Claxton says the team is now purely focused on thriving in the play-offs.<\/p>\n

"It's not every day you win five out of five at an Olympic Games, but unfortunately this is now the business end and that won't count if we go into a quarter-final and aren't successful," Claxton said.<\/p>\n

"We are going into the quarter-finals with a lot of momentum, we want to win. When you are winning you are confident, you are playing with freedom, you are playing with a calm mindset. We have definitely done that and set ourselves up well for a good quarter-final.<\/p>\n

"The main thing is the next 24 hours recovering well, it's a long tournament for us … It's a marathon.<\/p>\n

"We know this quarter-final means everything. Past that you can get the energy from where you want, but quarter-finals mean everything now."<\/p>\n
