{"id":109243,"date":"2021-07-31T06:48:23","date_gmt":"2021-07-31T06:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=109243"},"modified":"2021-07-31T07:58:07","modified_gmt":"2021-07-31T07:58:07","slug":"aussie-800m-stars-history-making-tokyo-blitz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=109243","title":{"rendered":"Aussie 800m star&#039;s history-making Tokyo blitz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five of the seven Australians who this morning made their first appearance of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/olympics\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"the Tokyo Olympics\">Tokyo Olympics<\/a> have advanced, in a pleasing session headlined by Peter Bol breaking the men&#x27;s national 800m record.<\/p>\n<p>Bol has progressed to the semi-final after clocking 1:44.13 to post the second-quickest time of the heats and steal the Australian record off training buddy and close mate Joseph Deng, who had set the benchmark in 2018.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/olympics\/tokyo-olympics-2021-live-updates-day-8-news-swimming-kaylee-mckeown-emily-seebohm-ariarne-titmus-katie-ledecky-simone-biles\/bc3975e7-b4b1-4537-95e1-937686b6b382\" target=\"\" title=\"OLYMPICS LIVE BLOG: DAY 8 UPDATES, NEWS\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>OLYMPICS LIVE BLOG: DAY 8 UPDATES, NEWS<\/strong><\/em><\/a> <em><strong>|<\/strong><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/olympics\/tokyo-games-event-centre\" target=\"\" title=\"TOKYO GAMES EVENT CENTRE: SCHEDULE, RESULTS, MEDAL TALLY\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>TOKYO GAMES EVENT CENTRE: SCHEDULE, RESULTS, MEDAL TALLY<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a first for Australia&#x27;s men in Olympic history, all three 800m runners have qualified for the semi-final.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Riseley, 34 and competing in his fourth Olympics, registered 1:45.41 to progress to the semi-final stage for the first time, while Charlie Hunter ran a 1:45.91 to snare a semi-final spot in his debut Olympic campaign.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"0ae85ef2-d342-443e-b2c4-eca2de0f15be\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/0ae85ef2-d342-443e-b2c4-eca2de0f15be\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the men&#x27;s pole vault, Australian Kurtis Marshchall &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/olympics\/tokyo-olympics-2021-australia-athletics-team-lockdown-coronavirus-scare\/8fd0c18f-a5bd-4ad5-b20d-1a076998adee\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"the athlete caught up in a COVID-19 scare that forced Australia&#x27;s whole athletics team briefly into isolation yesterday\">the athlete caught up in a COVID-19 scare that forced Australia&#x27;s whole athletics team briefly into isolation yesterday<\/a> &#8211; broke through to the final in his second Olympic Games after he was one of 11 competitors in the qualifiers who recorded a jump of 5.75m.<\/p>\n<p>And Olympic debutant Liz Clay marched through to the semi-final of the women&#x27;s 100m hurdles after stopping the clock at 12.87 in the heats.<\/p>\n<p>But as Deng, Riseley, Hunter, Marshchall and Clay all progressed in the morning session, Australia&#x27;s Dani Stevens and Sarah Carli did not manage to join them.<\/p>\n<p>Stevens, 33 and competing in her fourth Olympic Games, could only muster a discus throw of 58.77m, well short of her 69.64m personal best.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"141d6e85-2a72-4929-9e29-b9507bab7e28\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/141d6e85-2a72-4929-9e29-b9507bab7e28\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"3276\" data-height=\"2076\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Carli fell short of the women&#x27;s 400m hurdles semi-final in a run of 56.93.
