A double from star Sam Kerr and a brilliant penalty save from goalkeeper Teagan Micah have lifted the Matildas to a drama-filled 4-3 extra-time win over Great Britain and a first-ever Olympics semi-final berth.<\/p>\n

Kerr came to Australia's rescue just when they needed her most, with her 89th minute goal levelling their quarter-final at 2-2 to send the clash to extra-time.<\/p>\n

A frantic 10 minutes then ensued.<\/p>\n

The Brits were awarded a controversial penalty when Ellie Carpenter was ruled to have brought down Nikita Parris in the box.<\/p>\n

Replays showed there was minimal contact.<\/p>\n

But Micah produced a brilliant save to deny the penalty shot, diving to her left.<\/p>\n

Only a few minutes later, Mary Fowler put the Matildas ahead 3-2 with a lovely right-foot strike then Kerr doubled the advantage with a header.<\/p>\n

British forward Ellen White grabbed her third goal with just five minutes remaining in extra-time but the Aussies held on for a memorable victory.<\/p>\n

Matildas centre-back Alanna Kennedy scored Australia's first when she banged in a header in the 34th minute from a corner.<\/p>\n
