Australian pair Ash Barty<\/a> and John Peers<\/a> have been beaten in the semi-finals of the mixed doubles tennis at the Tokyo Olympics.<\/p>\n

Barty and Peers were beaten 5-7, 6-4, 13-11 by the Russian pair of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Andrey Rublev.<\/p>\n

It means Barty and Peers are out of contention for the gold medal. They'll now play for the bronze.<\/p>\n

Australia will feel they let an opportunity slip, with the Russians making 30 unforced errors for the match, as opposed to just nine from Barty and Peers.<\/p>\n

The loss means Barty will leave Tokyo without a gold medal, having also fallen short in both the women's singles and women's doubles, after coming into the Olympics on the back of her Wimbledon<\/a> victory.<\/p>\n

Despite losing the second set, the Australians carried some momentum into the tie-breaker, having fought back from 1-5 down to at least force the Russians to serve out the set at 5-4.<\/p>\n

The Aussies won three straight points during the tie-breaker to take a 6-4 lead, but an unforced error from Peers gave Russia a match point at 9-8. Pavlyuchenkova missed a relatively simple volley that would have wrapped up the match.<\/p>\n

The Australians held a match point of their own at 11-10 in the tie-breaker, only for the Russians to win three consecutive points to claim the match.<\/p>\n
