Australia has a new era of 'Oarsome Foursome' glory at the Olympics.<\/p>\n

The Aussie men's and women's fours teams won gold within half an hour of each other on Wednesday, both in thrilling finals at the Tokyo Games.<\/p>\n

The Aussie women's team was Lucy Stephan, Rosemary Popa, Jessica Morrison and Annabelle McIntyre. Popa joined her mother, Sue Chapman-Popa, as an Olympic medallist in the event (bronze at Los Angeles 1984).<\/p>\n

The Australians went out strong and covered the 2000m in 6:15.37, beating a fast-finishing Netherlands team by just 0.34. Ireland came third.<\/p>\n

The Australians went out strong and led the entire way but needed to dig incredibly deep to beat the Dutch. Original 'Oarsome Foursome' legend James Tomkins was on hand to present their gold medals.<\/p>\n

The Aussie men's team was Alexander Purnell, Spencer Turrin, Jack Hargreaves, Alexander Hill. They ran away with the race early but only just held off Romania at the death, winning by 0.37 in a time of 5:42.76. Italy was third and a formerly dominant Great Britain fourth.<\/p>\n

By claiming gold, they emulated the iconic Australian 'Oarsome Foursome' boats that were victorious at Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996. They also improved on a silver for the men's four at London 2012.<\/p>\n
