Gardner finished sixth in the championship standings, topped by Italian Enea Bastianini after he finished fifth in the final race.<\/p>\n

Gardner was locked in a thrilling battle for first with Marini in the latter stages of the race but had his maiden victory secured by the final lap.<\/p>\n
"I honestly have no words," he said post race, describing himself as "so f—ing happy".<\/p>\n
"My first win, a bit emotional you know on the cool down lap. We have been strong here all weekend and I thought I could win and I came in thinking with that mentality lets try and win it, its our last race and I've got nothing to lose and we did it.<\/p>\n
"We worked so hard as a team. All the weak points we straightened out over the weekend and even in the race I was still adapting to my style and learning from Luca. <\/p>\n
"In those last couple of laps I saw that I had the pace and I stayed behind Luca and on the last two laps I passed him, I pulled the pin and pulled out a gap and I am just lost for words honestly."<\/p>\n

The Australian had waited 75 races for the breakthrough in Moto2.<\/p>\n
He races for the ONEXOX TKKR SAG Team and will next season join the Ajo KTM team.<\/p>\n
