Dragons coach Anthony Griffin<\/a> admits winning games is "a challenge" as his 12 players in attendance at the infamous barbecue<\/a> serve their one-match bans.<\/p>\n

But the veteran mentor insists those who take to the paddock must "be better" than what his troops were in their 32-10 loss to the Titans on the Gold Coast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While five of the bubble-breaching Dragons<\/a> spent last week's clash with the Sea Eagles on the sideline – Matt Dufty, Zac Lomax, Tyrell Fuimaono, Daniel Alvaro and Kaide Ellis – the only player who didn't feature in the Titans match was five-eighth Corey Norman.<\/p>\n

The grim reality for St George Illawarra is key cogs Jack de Belin<\/a>, Gerard Beale, Josh McGuire, Josh Kerr, Jack Bird and Blake Lawrie are all yet to serve their suspensions, yet the Dragons have lost the two games they've played since the party at Paul Vaughan's house<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Vaughan was sacked by the Dragons and the NRL demanded the one-match bans on the 12 remaining players must be served over two to four games, to ensure Griffin could get a competitive team on the pitch for each match.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The scandal has rocked the finals ambitions of St George Illawarra, who are clinging to eighth on the ladder and are one of seven clubs fighting for the last two positions in the top eight.<\/p>\n

Griffin lamented his side's performance against Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

"It's a challenge (dealing with the one-match suspensions), but we've got to be better than that. Again today we got ourselves into (a pretty good position) at 8-6. Some of our younger outside backs – they did a really good job but at times they turned ball over in our own end and we were under a lot of pressure," Griffin said in his post-match press conference.<\/p>\n

"Whatever team we put out there we can't be making excuses. We've just got to be better than that. At 8-6 they had a lot of ball and we were entitled to be a lot better after that, but we weren't."<\/p>\n

The Dragons are now set to face the high-flying Rabbitohs<\/a> in Rockhampton next Saturday, as they strive to overcome a South Sydney outfit sitting third and riding a seven-game winning streak.<\/p>\n

"It is tough but NRL seasons are tough and ours has been particularly tough with the some of the things we've had to go through," Griffin said.<\/p>\n

"But that's only going to make us stronger and better. We've just got to get on with it."<\/p>\n
