It was a comfortable start to Jess Fox<\/a>'s Olympic campaign today, posting the second-fastest time in the heats of the women's kayak slalom.<\/p>\n

A time of 104.05sec was good enough for second behind Germany's Ricarda Funk, who clocked 101.90s at the Kasai Canoe Slalom Centre.<\/p>\n

The first round was always academic for Fox barring an absolute disaster, with 24 of the 27 fastest qualifying for Tuesday's semi-final, and the top ten from there racing off for gold.<\/p>\n

She'll get another heat run later this evening, but is already safely through.<\/p>\n

Fox was powerful in a clean run, not banking any penalty time as she didn't hit any gates.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old is aiming to win her first Olympic gold medal after claiming silver in London in 2012 and bronze at Rio 2016<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both of Fox's parents competed in canoe slalom at the Olympics.<\/p>\n

Her mother Myriam – who is also her coach – won bronze in the K1 for France at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, while her father Richard represented Great Britain at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.<\/p>\n

Fox has won multiple world titles in the C1 slalom event, which has been added to the Olympic program for the first time in Tokyo.<\/p>\n
