It was a mixed bag for the Aussies on the first day of tennis competition at the Tokyo Olympics<\/a>, with John Millman and the team of Storm Sanders and Ash Barty winning comfortably, but Sam Stosur losing.<\/p>\n

Millman was first up, easily beating Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.<\/p>\n

He'll now play Spanish young gun Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who recently enjoyed a spirited run to the quarter-finals at the French Open – if Millman wins that, a potential match-up with Novak Djokovic looms in the third round.<\/p>\n

Stosur faced highly-rated Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan, who is also fresh off an appearance in the last eight at Roland-Garros<\/a>, as well as a berth in the last 16 at Wimbledon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for the veteran Australian, she went down 6-4, 6-2.<\/p>\n

The team of Ash Barty and Storm Sanders needed less than an hour to get past Japan's Nao Hibino and Makoto Ninomiya, winning 6-1, 6-2.<\/p>\n

Barty will start her singles campaign tomorrow morning, as will James Duckworth and Ajla Tomljanovic.<\/p>\n

Stosur will get a quick shot a redemption as she teams up with Ellen Perez for their women's doubles clash, while Millman teams with Luke Saville in the men's.<\/p>\n
