The <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/swimming\/swimming\" title=\"swimmers\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">swimmers<\/a> sent home are now threatening legal action and calling for the head of the federation to resign over the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The Polish swimming team sent to Japan numbered just 23 people but has been cut to only 17, due to a misunderstanding of FINA qualifying standards.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I would like to express my great regret, sadness and bitterness at the situation,&quot; PZP director Pawel Slominski said in a statement, claiming that the error was made due to a desire to &quot;allow as many athletes and coaches as possible to take part&quot;.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>MORE: <\/strong><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/olympics\/tokyo-olympics-2021-covid19-positive-cases-czech-beach-volleyball-usa-gymnastics\/b49c4432-7fbd-4389-8ba8-5bcc9a5ef7e5\" title=\"Fresh athlete COVID-19 positives hit Olympics\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>Fresh athlete COVID-19 positives hit Olympics<\/strong><\/em><\/a><em><strong><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>One of the six snubbed swimmers, Alicja Tchorz, slammed the &quot;incompetence&quot; of the PZP, saying they had &quot;misunderstood the rules&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Imagine that you sacrifice five years of your life and \u2026 your sacrifice results in a total flop,&quot; Tchorz, who took part in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, wrote on social media.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CQZTrqsjvNX\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;amp\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"embed-social embed-instagram\" data-show-caption=\"true\">https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CQZTrqsjvNX\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;amp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another spurned swimmer, Mateusz Chowaniec, wrote on Instagram: &quot;This is an absurd situation that should never have happened.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Poland&#x27;s culture and sports ministry urged the president &quot;to immediately submit explanations&quot; over the incident. The swimmers were sent home almost as soon as they arrived in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>The other four swimmers were Bartosz Piszczorowicz, Aleksandra Pola\u0144ska, Dominika Kossakowska and Jan Ho\u0142ub.
