Canterbury's rebuild has received yet another big boost with Tevita Pangai Jr<\/a> reportedly set to sign a monster $2.2 million deal with the club, rejecting overtures from the Wests Tigers.<\/p>\n

According to a Sydney Morning Herald<\/a> report, Pangai Jr will sign a three-year deal with Trent Barrett's side after being granted an early release from his Brisbane Broncos<\/a> contract.<\/p>\n

The reported acquisition of the 25-year-old is the second coup in a matter of days for the Bulldogs, after the club unveiled league icon Phil Gould as its new General Manager of Football.<\/p>\n

While Gould is understood to have spoken to the youngster, according to the SMH, he refused to take credit for the potential signing.<\/p>\n

"As I understand it, prior to my announcement on Friday, they were well down the track with negotiations," he told Nine's 100% Footy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"I wasn't involved in these discussions, it was something that was done by the chairman and the coach.<\/p>\n

"There's no doubt he's a talent. I don't know what's happened at the Broncos and where he's career has gone off the rails up there, but I remember when [Wayne] Bennett was coaching the Broncos, he was a super player, he looked like being anything.<\/p>\n

"You don't lose your talent, I've always said that, and if it comes to fruition and the bulldogs make an announcement this week it will be great, and he will be a great acquisition for them"<\/p>\n

Pangai Jr joins a number of stars who have committed to helping the Bulldogs once again become an NRL powerhouse from 2022 and beyond.<\/p>\n

The Broncos enforcer joins Penrith's Matt Burton, Storm and NSW Origin star Josh Addo-Carr as well as Matt Dufty and Brent Naden as the big names to join Barrett's squad for next season.<\/p>\n

News of Pangai Jr's impeding arrival at Belmore comes after he admitted the Broncos had told him he was "free to look elsewhere" earlier this season<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"Players have to be held accountable for the results that we've been tossing up, so if that's me I have to look elsewhere," he said last month.<\/p>\n

"I just have to take it day by day and week by week and see where my future is.<\/p>\n

"I don't know (where my future is). I haven't thought about that. I thought I was on contract but contracts don't mean much these days. I've got to cop it on the chin and get my manager to do his job."<\/p>\n
