Lachlan Lewis has escaped suspension for his half-time brain explosion that left the NRL world stunned yesterday<\/a>, with the Bulldogs half copping a $1600 fine for lunging at Cody Walker.<\/p>\n

With both teams walking to the dressing rooms after a fiercely contested first half, Lewis reacted angrily to a verbal exchange with Walker, grabbing him from behind and then wrestling him to the ground.<\/p>\n

The bizarre altercation led to an all-in melee between the two sides, with Lewis sent to the sin-bin as a result.<\/p>\n

It was a costly moment in a match that finished 32-24 in the Rabbitohs' favour<\/a> but the NRL determined that it wasn't worthy of any more time on the sidelines, hitting Lewis with a grade one contrary conduct charge, which will be dealt with by a fine.<\/p>\n

The match review committee's decision will come as a huge relief to Lewis after his behaviour was described as "stupidity" and "crazy" by ex-Sharks coach Shane Flanagan and "bizarre" by former Bulldogs<\/a> star Braith Anasta as they called the game for Fox League.<\/p>\n

"Bizarre, I've never seen anything like it … I think he needs his head read," Anasta said.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs were leading by two points when Lewis was sin-binned, with Cooper Cronk saying the timing of the brain snap would have infuriated coach Trent Barrett.<\/p>\n

"The Dogs, after all they went through in the first half, up by two against a heavyweight of the competition, Lachlan Lewis goes to the bin," Cronk said.<\/p>\n

"Trent Barrett must be fuming!"<\/p>\n

Penrith's Api Koroisau, the Tigers' Mikaele and Lewis' teammate Dylan Napa were the other players charged out of yesterday's matches, but all three escaped with fines and will not face suspension.<\/p>\n
