Blues skipper James Tedesco says he has no regrets over handing Latrell Mitchell a do-or-die penalty attempt from the halfway line in Queensland's game three victory over NSW.<\/a><\/p>\n

In the end, a 20-18 scoreline saw the Maroons prevent an Origin whitewash, but it could have been a different story had Mitchell managed to get a few extra metres out of his halfway bomb to sail the ball through the upright in the final minute.<\/a><\/p>\n

Tedesco has since revealed he was the one who ultimately made the call to put the game in Latrell's hand after his former Roosters teammate put himself forward.<\/p>\n

It was a no-brainer for the skipper who had regularly watched Mitchell thump conversions on the training paddock from 50 meters.<\/p>\n

\"Latrell<\/p>\n

"He didn't strike it his best. At training, he hits them from 60m pretty regularly. It still nearly got there, he has a massive boot on him," Tedesco said.<\/p>\n

"I had confidence in him. If you see him at training, he kicks them from 50m-60m with ease. It's harder with the pressure and expectation but no regrets there. He had a crack and it just didn't come off."<\/p>\n

At the time of the attempt, Maroons legend Cameron Smith admitted he was "surprised" the Blues opted against kicking for touch.<\/p>\n

"He's hit them sweetly tonight, but with the series already wrapped up, I was a little bit surprised," Smith said.<\/p>\n

"I thought New South Wales may have looked for a touch finder deep in Queensland's territory and then gone for the win with a try."<\/p>\n

Mitchell was asked about the moment immediately following the match.<\/p>\n

"My shorts are a bit tight, I don't know, couldn't get my legs through," Mitchell joked.<\/p>\n

"But look, everyone dreams of doing that kick and is what it is."<\/p>\n

He later added: "I keep the same routine, a couple of steps and kick it. There's always a process, I try to stick by it. I just didn't connect properly.<\/p>\n

"I backed myself 100 per cent. I've always done it. That was one of those moments: you dream it as a kid, the big moments in the big arena. What better place than 50m out in an Origin game?<\/p>\n

"I've kicked a few from there at training but I didn't hit it as sweet as I should have … still nearly made it. Bit disappointed but that's that."<\/p>\n
