The opening half of tonight's Game Three<\/a> was met with fiery backlash from experts after 15 six-again calls marred a tense opening 40 minutes.<\/p>\n

Game Three of the Origin series saw a much tighter contest than in the previous two clashes, with the Maroons finding their feet to lead by two points at half-time before going to win by that same margin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But with 15 six-again calls – five more than the 10 called for the entirety of Game Two – Nine's commentary team joined restless fans in condemning the officiating.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the half-time show former Blues coach Phil Gould said the referee was "way too overzealous" during the opening period.<\/p>\n

"The only other point I will make is someone needs to go down and knock on the referees' door and tell him he's not the main attraction here this evening," Gould said.<\/p>\n

\"Teddy<\/p>\n

"He's been way too overzealous with his penalties. Let the players decide the result."<\/p>\n

Rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns was also asking questions in the commentary box.<\/p>\n

"Another six to go. Well, that's 15 in 37 minutes," Johns said late in the first half. "Can we let the players decide who wins the game?"<\/p>\n

Blues skipper James Tedesco was also asked about Sutton's officiating, in his half-time interview, after he went to the referee for what was described as a long chat.<\/p>\n

"I was just asking about discipline. We obviously got penalised a lot on our goal line but the positive was we held them out," Tedesco explained.<\/p>\n

"They had a lot of sets on our line and our [defence] was really good so that's a good positive."<\/p>\n

NRL pundits and former players joined fans in sending Twitter into meltdown with furious commentary about the officiating.<\/p>\n

The negative reaction was led by former Blues star Willie Mason who urged the referee to let the game flow.<\/p>\n
